He was one of the producers on the show, so he got to make a lot of decisions on how it would be. Andy chose the name for Sheriff Taylor because his mother's maiden name was Taylor. He also based the character on the actual Sheriff of that county who also did not drive and never carried a gun....just like Sheriff Taylor. On the show there was a town called Mount Pilot, but in reality, there is a Pilot Mountain. We didn't get there this time. On the show, they went to Snappy Lunch after going to the movies. The part of Mt Airy that is called Mayberry was created based on the show, and places from the show were re-created in Mayberry, in Mt. Airy. The last weekend of September they have an annual celebration called Mayberry Days. We couldn't stay for it this year, but hope to come back in two years and then we will plan on it. They have celebrity look-alikes who perform, parades and much more. We didn't get to sample the local BBQ or go to the Biscuit Basket (I'm not sure that was the exact name of the place, but it looked like a cute place to visit.) There were some beautiful churches I'd like to visit there too. Four days was just not enough. Besides the squad car tour, they have a horse drawn wagon ride around the town. We would have done that if we had known about it before we took the other tour. There is so much to see in this country, and we want to make time to see as much as we can.Jim & Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03321649933352544481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253086971574052239.post-88158490873046342172015-09-26T12:17:53.269-07:002015-09-26T12:17:53.269-07:00I meant to say, ...in an actual townI meant to say, ...in an actual townAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12465710420155744077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253086971574052239.post-39266533170330487532015-09-26T12:16:44.347-07:002015-09-26T12:16:44.347-07:00Wow ! Those were much simpler and innocent times. Glad you're having such a great time. And I haven't seen Joan since 1988 ! You definitely want to see Stone Moutain. Some nights they have music & laser light shows....well, they did back in the 80s.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12465710420155744077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253086971574052239.post-27481826020099278462015-09-24T21:35:13.104-07:002015-09-24T21:35:13.104-07:00Thanks Cindy.
